I Will Not Phone It In

Not so long ago I was at the bus stop. There were seventeen of us. The other sixteen were all intently focused on their phones.

I cannot. I will not.

People ask if I take my phone on walks or runs. Every time they inquire, I have to pause, take a breath, and calmly tell that that is not for me.

I was not made for a phone-centric life. Trees. Birds. Beavers. Eagles. Rabbits. Mountains. An entire world of things to take in; to use for relaxation. And you want me to carry one more thing? To give my attention to a tiny little screen?

Nope. Phones should be a tool. Not a way of life.
